Went for a drive yesterday with a BMW club friend, so I spent the day chasing an Interlagos Blue BMW E86 Z4 M Coupe in a loop designed around !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Of course I will be posting the pictures and videos tomorrow.

First of all, though, I want to show you this... truck / van / camper thing we met on the road. It is even running Australian plates, apparently Queensland, so it must have been shipped over here!

Any idea what the vehicle might be, and where from?

Rego check says it’s a Mitsubishi/Fuso Canter 4x4  Camper. Can’t make out the camper body make though.

Looks like an Earth roamer. Based on a fuso canter 4x4

Hmm, I think we got something here: https://earthcruiser.com/our-vehicles/earthcruiser-fx/

So it actually is Australian?

I'm no expert but the plate shape suggests NA registration

Having lived in national parks for the last few years, I see RVs from overseas pretty frequently. The Germans and Swiss especially seem to enjoy turning old military vehicles into RVs, but I’ve seen the odd Hilux, Defender, Land Cruiser, and vans of all kinds  as well.

they’re still just slide on camper bodies with a couple of adventure bolt ons.

Yes, in the same way a cake is just flour eggs and milk ...

I’d say its closer to icing a cake base that you bought at a store.

I thought so too, but I don’t think this model was offered here... they would much more likely use Ford F-series truck for the base. 15 years import, maybe?

Hmm, I thought it might be an NA registration and then brought over under the 15-years rule, but now I guess not.

So if I were to bring my CTS-V2 over for a drive, what will that take? After all it is basically a Holden Commodore... when I was buying spacers I could only purchase them ready-made from Australia :-P

Possible. Someone has a previous gen skoda yeti in Vancouver, you can import anything if you work hard enough.

Pretty sure now that that is an actual Queensland Australia plate:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Queensland

You’ll be fine as a tourist, you can bring just about anything over with a CPD Carnet. The same deal as if you were travelling around the world to any country.. and probably how this camper got into the states

If you were migrating here it gets more complicated, there’s a rule that allows immigrants and ex-pats to bring in cars owned and driven for more than 12 months to be brought in.. and there’s a Special Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme that allows vehicles that meet a certain criteria, this is how most people get Skylines, Evos etc in.

Ironically enough SEVS will not allow cars that are too similar to cars sold locally. ‘to protect the local manufacturing industry’ which is now dead.
